ABSTRACT
In a series of trials, the AIMMS-20 was evaluated for its capability to provide accurate real time meteorology onboard a spray aircraft. An intercomparison of wind profiles against a SODAR resulted in average wind differences that were less than 0.5m/s up to heights of 300m. Fixed level flights produced no discernible impact on measured wind field as the flight line direction was altered around the wind direction. Finally, mapping of the wind field above a simulated treatment block of 1300ha indicated wind speed variations that could significantly impact operational spray patterns used to maximize in-block deposit.
